If you are building certain kinds of niche websites, it is very difficult to merge social media with them properly.  Not to mention, the social media traffic simply doesn&#039;t convert on many types of niche sites.  SEO traffic converts much (much) better.  That makes SEO number one in my book for niche websites with commercial intent.
I guess it all really depends on your goals for a website.
