A great blog or website will not make up for lack of business acumen.
AND
There is significant value in learning how to do some things for yourself.
Yes, when you’ve got loads of cash and zero time, it certainly makes sense to outsource. Outsource away! That creates more business for people like me. ![]()
But when you are just starting out and are growing, there are things you can do for yourself. Here’s the plus: the benefits you will receive from “learning to do for yourself” are long-lasting.
I’ve always been fiercely independent so I admit that it is difficult for me to put myself in someone less independent’s shoes. My approach is always: can I do this myself? If I can, I do. The things I do for myself range from moving furniture, to building websites to changing the tires on my car (I still can’t change my own oil… yet).
Here are some things you can do for yourself that you probably didn’t realize:
- On-page and off-page SEO. Yes. You. Can.
- Twitter backgrounds.
- Creating a video for YouTube or a 30-second commercial with no camera.
- Creating a badge for your blog that other people can put on theirs (helps with marketing).
So in the coming weeks, in my endless efforts to facilitate independence and strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit, I’ll be writing more how-to’s that meet specific needs. If you have specific questions, definitely ask me in the comments below or use the Ask Me form.
P.S. If you have submitted a question via the Ask Me form and I haven’t gotten to it, shoot me an email at [email protected]. There may be a certain reason I’ve not published it (like, it’s just too general), or I may just need reminding. Thanks! ![]()
