Beauty, brains, and a blog that exemplifies what style blogging is really all about… meet Lindsey. A stylist with an impressive record, zig-zagging across the country (and the world) and blogging while at it. How does she do it?
I met Lindsey through a mutual friend on Twitter awhile ago, and had the pleasure of converting her beautiful style blog, SaucyGlossie.com, from Blogspot to WordPress, using Thesis Theme. Here, Lindsey fesses up in this edition of Confessions of a Chick Blogger.
Confessions of a Chick Blogger – Interview with Lindsey Calla
1. How many blogs do you run, what are their names/links, and how old are they?
Just one for now! www.saucyglossie.com and it is almost 2 years old.
2. How did you get started?
I started on blogspot and I experimented a lot with my voice… After a while I realized I wanted it to be more photo/outfit heavy rather than writing or reporting. It was a lot of trial and error and a lot of just free writing to find my niche or where I fit in in the blog world.
3. Do you remember when you “got” your very first reader? The day that you noticed someone was reading?
Facebook gave me a lot of my first hits… It probably was mostly all close friends and family! But very exciting to watch the meter go up!
4. How important is your Twitter and/or Facebook activity to your blog? How does it impact it?
It is really, really important… It brings a lot of hits, interaction, and awareness to myself and my site. I couldn’t imagine not having the social media outlets to promote on…
5. Is your blog monetized? If so, how?
I just signed with an ad network and I also get jobs or partnerships with brands that are compensated all mostly from my blog.
6. Has the vision of your blog changed at all over time?
Yes, it is always evolving! Even in the last month or so I can see a difference. Because it really is a one woman show I’ve learned so much as I’ve gone along. Each day I learn something new about photoshopping, picture taking, html-coding… etc.
7. What are you really hoping to accomplish? How will you know when you’re successful?
I’m looking forward to having ads on my site and I’ve been working with a lot of great brands and been getting jobs that I’ve always wanted because of my blog.. I’m always setting new goals so I’m not sure when I know that I’m successful because I’m always setting the bar higher.
8. Are there any magazines, blogs, or other publications that influence the type of content you come up with?
I like to look at Fashiongonerogue.com for photo inspiration… I do look at tons of other style blogs however I try to not let them influence me because then I lose originality because it always starts to seep into my approach! I read magazines a lot less than I used to but I still like to check them out for a comprehensive look at trends, etc.
9. If you knew “back then” what you know now, what would you change about your blog, its promotion, or content?
OMG I would change so much from the beginning! I would have really spent time branding it more from the beginning… Meaning, finding a niche at first and filling it… I think that always helps but it sometimes takes time to find.
10. How does blogging fit into your daily routine?
It basically is my daily routine… I swear my eyes are going bad early because I stare so much at the computer fixing or working on things! It’s my full time gig so I really structure my days around it. If I’m not on my computer then I’m taking pictures or researching… It is my life at the moment which is nice because I love doing it!

Hi Lindsey:
I LOVE IT! I am a fashion groupie, and though I don’t work anywhere in fashion, I’ve always loved it. I appreciate that you “re-fashioned” your blog from a writing point of view to a photography-based point of view. You found your niche within your niche. You have a style that I truly like, and now look forward to checking your blog every-so-often.
Regards,
Donina
Great interview!!! On a style standpoint, I really love how she wears skirts and dress even in the chillier months. That is when you get the chance to really show off your tights and knit stockings. Also I am big on making a brand for myself and my blog. Good to know that I’m headed in the right direction!!
