Makeup Application Series: Primer

January 31, 2011 · 2 comments

PrimerIn an attempt to keep myself busy, I’m always trying new things. Towards the end of 2010 I picked up make up application. Think Kim Kardashian. Yeah she probably doesn’t put on her own face, but imagine if you could achieve the same dramatic eye.

The makeup application series is perfect for those who want to learn some great beginner tips for every day and for others who want the wow factor on their evenings out.

Primer

I thought I was prepared when I purchased my brushes, eye shadows and foundation. But I was missing a necessary component. Primer helps set a base for your foundation and eye shadows. There are two types of primer you need to know about.

All over face primer is applied (you guessed it) all over your face. This is what helps set your foundation. It also helps control oil. Pump out a dime sized amount and apply to you t-zone and then to the rest of your face. Then you are free to apply your choice of foundation. Eye shadow primer helps set your eye makeup. Trust me if you are usually the one who falls victim to raccoon eyes by 3pm then this will be a god send for you. Spread a thin layer across each eye lid then distribute over entire lid. The picture below shows ideal usage amounts. Then apply your eye makeup. Selecting your makeup look should match many aspects like:
the event you are going to, your outfit colors, time of day, the message you want to convey (classic, natural, sexy, dramatic…) your eyes color and your hair color.
I use this great makeup advisor tool from Makeup Portal that will give you makeup instructions and suggested makeup look according to these aspects at (http://makeupportal.com/makeup-advisor).

hope it helps.
