Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions this year? Fitness goals? Kicking a bad habit? Working harder? Working less? … I haven’t! In fact, if 2011 is exactly the same as 2010, I’ll be satisfied.
I’m still planning to work out with my personal trainer twice a week because it feels good and I like the results. Every time I train with him, I feel challenged but not excessively. In other words, I still have energy for the rest of my day after working out with him. A few years ago, I used to go to the gym at least 5 times a week. In fact, I felt guilty if I missed my regular aerobic classes.
I was such a regular at the club that people used to comment on my absence when I was away. After years of this routine, I started re-evaluating my priorities and decided fitness was all about balance. It wasn’t about losing weight or training for a marathon. It was about feeling good and relieving the stress in my life. The problem with my previous addiction to the gym was it was having the opposite effect … adding stress!
And the advantage of twice a week is the gaps in between workouts give me a chance to rest and recharge so when I do work out, I’m able to push myself.
I have 2 bad habits … coffee and wine, but I’m not prepared to give them up. My attitude is they are my little rewards. I love drinking coffee from my travel mug while walking the dog every morning. I spoil myself by making a delicious pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee every morning. And I consider good wine one of life’s pleasures … there’s nothing like a glass of red wine and a chunk of cheese at the end of a day’s skiing.
I work as hard as I have to in order to make my business succeed. September to December are crazy months but even during my so-called “slow” months, I work full time. Sure it would be nice to take more vacations and work fewer hours but I don’t know anyone who has found an easy way to make money and owning your own business is no exception. If I hated my job (which I don’t), I might feel differently but I don’t … I LOVE the creative and challenging aspects of running Tail Wags Helmet Covers.
So what’s to change? Absolutely nothing and that’s why I’m not making any New Year’s Resolutions this year! How about you?

I make (and love!) new year’s resolutions. It’s time of renewal and excitement to me. I think there’s always room for improvement and I love the challenge of it all.
I like this post and agree about not setting up a list of resolutions. This year I’m not “resolving” to do anything; rather I’m determined to achieve some things: 1) enjoy a wellness program…which I’m happy to say I started; 2) focus my art: I have 4 artistic directions- painting, mosaic-ing, digital design and photography; and each has its clear focus; 3) take the plunge and build my MonaVie business…go from ‘talker’ to ‘walker.’ So, I’m not resolving, I’m doing. And you are so correct about the “glass of wine and chunk of cheese;” for me it’s iced tea and tortilla chips and salsa – oooo nothing better!
Tia!
Great stuff girl – and glad you have your head around the direction you are heading.
Also, in relation to not setting any specific goals or reslutions – anyone who can say “there’s nothing like a glass of red wine and a chunk of cheese at the end of a day’s skiing.” clearly does not need to change anything LOL
Keep rocking it girl.
btw: the link I sent in the email only 404′d on you because the email was sent 20 minutes before the post was scheduled. You are too fast LOL!
Commentluv will show you the way below (nudge nudge hint hint LOL)
Sorry, I mean great post karyn!
Tia – work harder OK!
Until you can enjoy cheese and wine apres ski style – you cannot rest
LOL Alex, you are too funny. Good to see you coming by the blog! Best wishes in 2011.
Cheers,
Tia
I’m always willing to share a bottle of red wine and a chunk of cheese with anyone interested. I live in Toronto, Canada.
This is interesting Karyn. thanks for sharing, although I look at New Years Resolutions a bit differently.
I do make new years resolutions but I look at them a different way. Basically, all I am doing is setting and planning my goals for the next year. Like any goal, they need to be specific, measurable, and have a plan of action in order to succeed. Most people jot their resolutions down in 5-10 minutes with no thought to how they will achieve them.
James: just checked out your blog site and I agree that if you’re going to make resolutions, then they need to be well thought out, measurable and do-able! Thanks for adding a comment to my post.
Cheers,
Karyn
Hmm, it’s good to have goals because you know at what to aim, but it’s also good to improvise, because you can set new goals as you go.
One bad thing is that having goals that are to ambition may deter you from pursuing them and small goals can make you procrastinate.
Anyway, I think it’s good either way. Having a new years resolutions or not.
Have a Happy New Year!
I so had a new years resolution, having been very successful with my last 5 years and not breaking them at all (my resolution was not to make any thus not disappointing myself
), this year I made a few business ones and personal ones.
Personal ones included 15 mins a day on the exercise bike. The day before NYE my dog chewed the pedal off. Looking for a new bike now…
15 minutes on the exercise bike seems like a manageable goal. Sorry to hear your dog chewed the pedal off. What breed of dog do you have? Sounds like a Lab puppy behaviour.
What are your business goals? What type of business do you own?
Thank you so much for leaving a comment to my blog post.
Best regards,
Karyn
Good call, she is half Lab and half rottweiller.
We have a transport business and a blog business
Gosh that made me smile to think of it as a business
same to me Karyn,..
I don’t have resolution too,.. btw Happy New Year 2011
If you’re happy with your life the way it is, you don’t need to make any resolutions. Best wishes for a wonderful 2011! Thanks for posting a comment to my blog article.
Sincerely,
Karyn
