The 7 Types of Chick Bloggers to Add to Your Network

The blogosphere can be a very segregated place. Bloggers tend to stick with their own kind. That’s okay for some bloggers, but there is a lot we can learn by checking out how another type of blogger does their thing. Everything from promotional techniques to layout will vary from group to group, and the rules of one group don’t always apply to another.

Do you have a well-rounded network? Not a big, established blog network, but just the circle that you naturally travel in. Think of the blogs you typically share and the places you comment. If it’s kinda homogeneous, I suggest taking a look around and adding some additional flavor to the mix.

1. The Marketing & Business Bloggess

This blogger knows business and marketing inside out. Most likely, she’s a top-notch networker, probably more offline than online, but that is a good thing. Face-to-face networking gurus are hard to find these days.

The marketing & business bloggess brings a great deal of real world experience to her writing, and seeks to help you build a profitable business and not some overnight millionaire deal.

2. The Blogging Bloggess

This blogger focuses on building and [intlink id="2262" type="post"]promoting blogs[/intlink]. She’s a must for any chick blogger’s network. Last year, bizchickblogs.com was primarily a blog about blogging. Everyone needs a go-to blogging bloggess.

Is there room for more? Yes. One thing I noticed when I was building bizchickblogs.com is that people who blog about blogging are as unique as blogs are. Every one offers a different angle or piece of advice on the same subject, and a few of us contradict each other completely.

You may wish to add a few of these to your network, just to be sure you’re getting as much advice about blogging as you can.

3. The Mommy Bloggess

Few bloggers, even social media bloggers, can boast the networking savvy of a well-connected mommy blogger. I’ve watched the mommy blogger phenomenon over the past few years and it’s been amazing to see the trend catch on like wildfire.

Want to throw a good contest? Add a popular mommy blogger to your network and watch how it’s done.

4. The Lifestyle Bloggess

Lifestyle covers topics such as food, health, travel, art & photography, finance, or style, among many others. I personally follow a handful of food and style bloggers because that’s where my interests lie (I can’t cook and I can’t dress, so perhaps that’s why I’m intrigued).

Speaking specifically to those of us who are social media, blogging, or marketing/business bloggers, it’s essential to start adding some lifestyle bloggers to your network. Find people who write about real life – the life outside of your blog, remember it? You probably had one, at some point in time. Lifestyle bloggers, especially the successful ones, remind me that it’s possible to have your cake and eat it too when it comes to blogging.

5. The Social Media Bloggess

Social media bloggers are special. This blogger is like a reporter – and that’s a very difficult job! Keeping up with social media trends is like keeping up with CNN Breaking News. I have to get email alerts just to stay aware of what the heck is going on in the world. I admire social media bloggers for biting off such a huge chunk of this-is-definitely-going-to-change-by-tomorrow-oh-wait-it-already-did.

I put social media bloggers in a different category than blogging bloggers. While blogging bloggers are adept at covering everything from design, to plugins, to getting more traffic, social media bloggers talk about trends and changes, and ask the important questions like, “Is social media really social?”

I also suggest adding a few bloggers with an opposing viewpoints on social media to your network. It’s worthwhile to look at social (or anti-social) media from both sides of the coin.

In any case, you will come up with plenty of ideas for blog topics if you follow social media bloggers long enough.

6. The Newbie Bloggess

I like hanging around newbie bloggers (less than 4-6 months experience) for several reasons. One reason is that they are always on the hunt for news and information, and tend to try things before the rest of us (who are comfortable doing it the way we always have). I always pick up an idea or two from the newbies in my circle.

I also like newbie bloggers because their content is usually full of so much more heart than some of the older bloggers. Newbies haven’t become enslaved by massive amounts of traffic yet, and haven’t felt the sting of riding high for awhile, and then writing something which you think is fant-abulous, only to see your readership diss you because that’s not what they’re interested in. So when newbies write, they are still writing from the heart (from the abunance of the heart, the mouth speaks).

7. The Micro-Bloggess

This chick isn’t really a blogger at all. Perhaps she has a blog… somewhere. But she’s all over Twitter, and probably Amplify and/or Posterous, too. She’s got other things to do, so writing long blog posts isn’t her style but if you want to know what’s new with Ooh, she’s your gal.

The special reason to add the micro-bloggess to your network is that she will share your stuff (because sharing is what micro-bloggesses do best). One day, if she wanted to settle down, she could probably outblog the social media bloggess on her first post, but that day is most likely awhile off. The micro-bloggess likes her tweets and holds them near to her heart.

Where do you fit?

Let us know so we can add you to our networks! Know someone who really shines in one of the categories above? Add her name and blog below.

Funny Article, I am a newbie here and a new blogger as well, which places me squarely into two categories. I hope that I add some quality input to your site in the future, at this point I am reading and learning as much as possible from some very impressive seasoned bloggers.

Thanks Tia!

I love this blog, now to find the time to read it all….. :)

Well, my blog definitely falls under Newbie! Started November 2009.

Other than that it also fits the category of Lifestyle as I blog about mental health, well, actual Bipolar Disorder in particular. It’s interesting to know that I am in this category as I didn’t have a clue.

I am desperate to get some more interaction going with other people either having Bipolar Disorder or knowing a loved one having Bipolar Disorder.

Please, add me to a network, that would be really helpful to reach that goal I hope! That mental health stigma needs to be broken!!

Hi Tia,
Hope you don’t mind guys invading your blog. I really like your descriptions of the different types of blogger.
I do think we as bloggers need to have a bit of all of it. We need to be able to interact, market, run and plan our business (even if it’s a hobby) write, provide value, entertain the list goes on.
We need Super Blogger.
Pete

5 Tia Peterson January 11, 2011 at 8:26 am

Hey Pete – Invade away! I know our audience is about 50% male and 50% female, so you’re not out of place at all.

I agree – we DO need to be super blogger and it’s really tough. Have multiple authors or a few guest bloggers from time to time helps.

And having a variety of topics helps out with search engine visibility. The day-to-day commenting shrinks a little bit, but traffic, subscriptions, and even page views all tend to go up. I really like that.

6 Eliza January 10, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Hi there. Okay, it was pretty easy to pick me out of this list. I am a combination of the following:

1. The Marketing & Business Bloggess <– I blog because I love writing, but I make no bones about the fact that I blog as a business to promote my products and services
2. The Lifestyle Bloggess <– my blog is about aging gracefully so it's everything us fantastic baby boomer goddesses need to know to stay physically, mentally and spiritually healthy

You really got me thinking as to whether I engage with all 7 types of bloggesses … say bloggesses 10 times fast! … and I have to say probably not the Mommies. I am pretty removed from that now, so I find it hard to comment. Maybe when I have grand-babies :-)

I have to say my absolute favourite bloggess to engage with is the Newbie. In terms of blogging, I am an Old Timer … over 2 years. (The average life span of a blog is 4 months). I had many wonderful bloggers help me as I was learning all the ropes, and now it's my turn to pay-it-forward. It gives me warm and fuzzies. :-)

7 John@Hypertransitory.com January 10, 2011 at 1:08 pm

I’ve said it before so here goes again.

I tell all kinds of chicks about your blog here, Tia. So I will continue to do so in the future if I spot anyone or if I have any friends who could benefit from and add value to your network.

Very impressive is very impressive. I’m following in your footsteps (in a half-assed, screwed-up “JG” way, lol)!

8 Tia Peterson January 10, 2011 at 2:37 pm

Oh yeah, LOL. John you already took the honorary bizchick spot. :) Too funny.

9 John@Hypertransitory.com January 10, 2011 at 3:04 pm

You shoulda named this post: “The 7 Types of Chick Bloggers – GOTTA COLLECT ‘EM ALL!!”

10 Lynn MacDonald January 10, 2011 at 12:43 pm

hmmm…not sure where I fit in. I’m new so I guess newbie, but I’m a mom although my kids are older, but I write humor, but about my life and observations. I would love to expand my network, but how?

http://allfookedup.com

11 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Hi Lynn!

Well, by doing exactly what you’re doing now. I can imagine that with a domain name liked allfookedup.com, you’d probably get all kinds of crazy visitors.

Perhaps you should write a guest post on why you chose that name. You’re welcome to publish it here! Talk about why you’re blogging, why you chose such a funny name, and what you’re hoping to accomplish.

12 Sixthirtythree January 10, 2011 at 12:08 pm

Hi Tia,

I am a Lifestyle Bloggess, Newbie Bloggess, and Micro Bloggess. However, since I started blogging, my micro-blogging has dropped to mostly RTs and conversations. Conversations are probably a good thing.

My favorites in addition to bizchicksblogs are:
Kikolani
WorkingTechMom
Webtraffic.com – Ana Hoffman

13 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:41 pm

Hey there,

Same as NotoriousSpinks below. Same exactly three! I guess they go together.

Do you like blogging more than micro-blogging?

14 Evelyn January 10, 2011 at 7:58 am

Hi Tia,

I think I’m a Lifestyle Blogess. But I dibble and dab in the others as well.

Here’s my list:

1. Ileane – basicblogtips.com (social media bloggess)
2. Kissie – justkissie.com (micro bloggess)
3. Kiesha – weblogbetter (blogging bloggess)

Now I need to find me a mommy bloggess. :)

Great post, Tia!

Evelyn

15 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:40 pm

Hey Evelyn,

I agree with all three of these recommendations. I’d have to say that Kissie is probably one of the best micro-bloggesses I’ve ever seen!

16 Fred Leo January 10, 2011 at 5:18 am

This might be tough, but I am going to elbow my way into this chick blogger network. I think you chicks certainly need a dude in your network, and let me be that dude. :)

17 Tia Peterson January 10, 2011 at 6:41 am

lol Fred that is awesome. Welcome. You’re the marketing/business blogger type, I think. Right?

18 John@Hypertransitory.com January 10, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Hey! I’m the honorary male Bizchick around here! lol

Just kidding, we can all get along. I can’t handle all these women by myself :)

Anyway, Fred check this link to set up your Feedburner so it doesn’t jack your linkjuice from Commentluv entries:

http://www.famousbloggers.net/commentluv-backlinks-feedburner-rss-feed.html

I just sent this to someone else today, too, so be sure to pay it forward if you spot anyone not doing it. All the best!

19 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:39 pm

Hey John,

Thanks for helping out with the ComLuv link spotting. I see it all the time! I guess some people don’t mind it.

20 Brankica January 9, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Hey Tia, thanks for including me at number 6, lol.
You are so right describing the newbie.

I didn’t really understand if we should post links so I won’t, but my recommendation would be three ladies (well I like more of them but they are the top three I remember at this moment):
1. Lisa Irby from blog.2createawebsite.com
2. Elise from elisesreview.com
3. Ana Hoffman from trafficgenerationcafe.com

21 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Thanks for those recommendations! I love Ana’s blog, have been to Lisa’s blog a couple of times, and have never heard of Elise so that’s great! New blogs to try.

Thanks for stopping by!

22 Notorious Spinks January 9, 2011 at 9:20 pm

This is a great raw post. As a fairly new blogger I see the segregation that you speak of and it really baffles me. We are all aiming toward many of the same things so it is important that we network and share.
As for the type of Blogess, I see myself as the Lifestyle Blogess, the Newbie Blogess and The Micro-Bloggess. I think I incorporate a little of all those styles in my blogging.
When it comes to blogging, I try to be real and relatable. I also blog about things that I’ve questioned. When I find the answer then I write about it. If I didn’t know there are so many others who still don’t know.

23 Tia Peterson January 12, 2011 at 3:37 pm

Hi!

Well you are now on my lifestyle, newbie, and micro-bloggess lists! I’m glad you found bizchickblogs.com and I hope to publish some of your content soon.

24 miss t January 9, 2011 at 2:57 pm

Love this post :) where do I fit in? I’m that new blogger, but not only that, I love networking :)

25 Tia Peterson January 9, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Hey Miss T,

I’m excited that you stopped by! I love that you love networking. lol Maybe you can introduce me to some people. I hope the best for your blog this year!

26 Michelle @ Italian Mama Chef January 9, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I agree with all points. I’ve personally helped a few new bloggers this past year and it feels great. I think I need to get my own blogging mojo back since I’ve been sick every day this year so far. I need to get back to cooking and blogging.

27 Tia Peterson January 9, 2011 at 3:47 pm

I tried cooking last week – I made a ginger glazed Mahi Mahi and it was wonderful. I may feature it this week.

I hope you feel better! 2011 has many, many good things in store for you, Michelle!

28 Michelle @ Italian Mama Chef January 10, 2011 at 9:40 am

Thanks Tia. I just got word that I have two cooking classes scheduled for February! I’m very excited about these.

29 Sarah Arrow January 9, 2011 at 2:13 pm

I love being around new bloggers, they are just so full of joy and enthusiasm :) I find time spent with new bloggers is time well spent.

30 Tia Peterson January 9, 2011 at 3:46 pm

I too love the enthusiasm of new bloggers. And the commitment. As long as they can keep the faith, blogging becomes a habit and they’ll stick with it.

31 Kimberly at Parasol Creations January 9, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Great post! and I would say that one of my new and favorite blogs is Biz Chick Blogs! :)

I always highly recommend http://www.housewifebliss.com :)

Thanks Tia!

32 Tia Peterson January 9, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Hey Kimberly!

Thanks for that. :) I will check out housewifebliss.com!

33 Fran Aslam@online writer January 9, 2011 at 11:20 am

Hi Tia:

Awesome post as usual. I always wonder how every one gets unique and informative ideas to write about. I always have a hard time to select the topic. The rest becomes easy. When You have sometime, I will love your input to write a blog post about effective strategies to select topics for blog post. However, this post is really good, I like your linking style , your analysis of blog network is just perfect and based on facts.

fran A

34 Tia Peterson January 9, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Thanks, Fran!

I find that it’s much easier to find topics if you have an editorial calendar. Meaning, decide in advance what general area you will cover during a specific period of time (like, a month). Then, decide what TYPES of posts you will have – reviews, interviews, list posts, rants, advice, etc.

I strongly suggest 31 Days to Building a Better Blog if you are struggling with coming up with topics. That’s the best guide on that subject.

35 Fran Aslam@online writer January 10, 2011 at 9:42 am

Hi Tia:

Thanks for the reply right away. You are rght, I will have to make monthly goals and and work it on a weekly basis, so tpic is already selected for me and I will not have to choose right away. 31 Days to Building a better blog. Is it Darren R’s book, I will search the Internet to look for it. Thanks for your input. It did help me to figure out.
