TwUnfollow.com: Who Stopped Following You?

January 6, 2011 · 19 comments

Tweeple – Are you ever curious about who is no longer following you?

If so, check out TwUnfollow.com. When you sign up, TwUnfollow will email you a list of the people who are no longer following your Twitter account. If you’re in the early stages of building a Twitter following and need to keep your following count in check (so you’re not following many more than the number following you), this can help. I wouldn’t exactly call this essential, but for some people it’s important to keep a balance.

This is not an automated thing. It just sends you a daily list of who stopped following you that day. If you want to then go and stop following those folks, you’ll have to do that yourself manually.

When you get your daily list, don’t get depressed! :) For me, the people who stopped following are usually people I chose not to follow back, and so they stopped following me, which only makes sense in my opinion. The more followers you have, the more “unfollowers” you are going to have.

So far so good the twunfollow works pretty well for me. Most of my unfollowers are even those with spam like twitter accounts which by the way, I’ve decided to stay away from.

Hi Tia I hope your New Year is off to a great start.

I can;’t say that I really care who unfollows me on Twitter, I figure hey if they unfollowed they did it for a reason. It’s not like I’m going to write them back and ask them why or try to get them to follow me again, figure I might as well view something else. Maybe who’s started following me so that I can say thanks ;)

Oh my Tia another nice tool. I don’t follow everyone who follows me and thought that was the case with most – of course minus the spammers :) Now you got me thinking and well, I’m curious. Oh and I love the virtual rocks comment @Lisa. I need to try this!

Hey Tia, on my personal Twitter account I really don’t concern myself with unfollowers. My feeling is like – Oh well – it’s their loss, because I know I got some good tweets. :)
But for the account I set-up at work, this will come in very handy and give me lots of insights because I’m struggling to maintain those followers.
I recently found another cool tool called Untweeps for getting rid of inactive Tweeps so I was able to get rid of some dead weight pretty quickly.

Thanks for the link Tia.

We’re new to this whole blogging deal, so it’s interesting to get the whole picture of this subculture…

Nice tip Tia! I try to keep a close eye on my follower count and I had never heard of TwUnfollow.com. I’ve been using JustUnfollow.com to manage my following. This will give me one more tool. Thanks!

Hey! I’ve never heard of that one. If you write a review on it, let me know!

Cheers
Tia

Hi Tia,

I’ve never heard of this, so thanks for sharing. I don’t usually keep up with who’s un-following, but I’m curious to see the outcome.

Take care,

Evelyn

Yes, for me it started out of curiosity as well. Now I like to check it every time. There have never been any surprises, lol. It’s just a habit now.

I didn’t knew about this website till now, it’s useful to spot those sneaky people that want to use you only to grow their followers number (I mean if you are one of those that follow people back just because they followed you).

Great tool and the best part it’s free (Yeah, I am cheap like that).

11 Tia Peterson January 6, 2011 at 11:13 am

We’re all cheap like that LOL I’m not sure I would pay money to know who stopped following me. If they combined it with some other service, like HootSuite, I’d probably pay!

I’ve been using this myself recently and a lot of those that are listed are those that have followed me, waited a very short while, and then unfollowed me because I haven’t followed them, sheesh! Anyone would think it’s all about the numbers LOL

13 Tia Peterson January 6, 2011 at 11:14 am

For real. Most of the time, that is exactly what happens. I understand it, though. I mean, I think following on Twitter should be mutual. If there are people I don’t want to follow but still want to get their updates, I put them in a list. So it works out well.

I would have been last year but I have now stopped doing the whole “follow me and I’ll follow you” concept. :)

15 Tia Peterson January 6, 2011 at 11:16 am

Right. I don’t follow everyone who follows me. And I follow some people who don’t follow me, although it is rare. I usually put people/accounts in a list, especially if I know that they wouldn’t follow me back (like a brand or company). These keeps the follower/following count balanced, which IS important to me, I will say.

This seems interesting. When I read the title I thought it was one of those terrible tools that annoy people :)
I had this happen once. I unfollowed someone because they were tweeting too much (like 20 tweets a minute) and the next tweets from that person was “user @myusername is not following me on Twitter anymore, guess they didn’t like the conversation”. Seriously, what conversation, you broadcasting spammer, lol

Gotta try this one out, maybe I could use it to lower the number of people that are there just for the numbers

17 Tia Peterson January 6, 2011 at 11:17 am

Those tools are awful!! LOL That has happened to me on a number of occasions. I can’t believe tools like that even exist. So ridiculous! This one is just a private one. If anything, when it comes time to let some people go because it’s too hard to maintain or something, you could reference these lists and let go of people who aren’t following you anyway.

People unfollow all the time and it just what it is..only the real people will stick with you and the other people are just hitchhikers..

BTW..I like the new blog look..

Tia:

I love the idea of this..mostly because I’m nosy and can then throw virtual rocks at my unfollowers! I knew it would only be a matter of time before this tool became available. Thanks for showing me where to find this.

All the best,

Lisa
