No Blues! 4 Ways to Keep the Month of Love Healthy & Happy

February 1, 2011 · 10 comments

Month of LoveIt’s official, February, the month of love has finally arrived. February is the month when some of us celebrate Valentine’s Day, by the giving of candy, flowers and much more.  For some, the month of love is not so loving.

When I was in high school some decades ago, I hated Valentine’s Day and the whole love month.  I hated this time of the year, because some girls received flowers and candy.  The flowers and candy would be delivered to the person during the last class period of the day. I secretly wished that someone would send me something, but it never happened.

Year after year, this would happen, and I accepted that I wasn’t popular in the relationship area.  I was more popular in the academics area and I’m glad I was more of a nerd, because it kept me focused on my grades.  When I look back on it, I shouldn’t have let this get to me so much, but it did.  I tell you one thing, I was a happy camper when February left and March rolled in.

Do you dread the month of love?

These days, I embrace the month of love with open arms.  It’s not only a time for love, but it’s a time that you can chart your course and focus on improving and loving yourself.

Celebrating the Month of Love

no blues month of love

1.  Love yourself by committing to a fitness regimen. I have yet to fully commit to a fitness regimen, but the month of love is a time when I will commit.  Love yourself by toning up and getting fit.

2.  Seal the deal with your health goals. Your health goals are more reachable now than ever before.  Determination and seeing yourself achieving your health goals are important.  Once you can see yourself reaching your goals, then the next thing for you to do is to “just do it!”

3.  Maintain healthy relationships with family and friends. Let’s face it, we all have relationships, some are good and some are not so good.  Give your family and friends what you want.  Be it kindness, time, love, or whatever.  You’ll find that you get what you put out.

4.  Show love and be kind to everyone. You may not realize this, but being kind and showing love makes you feel good deep down on the inside.  This can help you in more ways than you’ll ever know.

Healthy Love Month

Whenever you find yourself feeling down about not receiving flowers, candy, cards and all that other stuff that comes with the month of love.  Remember that you can love yourself by making all things in your life healthy.  Don’t spend another minute worrying about what you don’t have, be thankful; show love and kindness for your family, friends, relationships and most of all for yourself.

Make the month of love a month of healthy beginnings in all areas of your life.

This is a very timely post for me since I literally just got back into my running routine today! :) I ran a marathon last spring and was so burnt out from training for it that I really struggled to get back in the routine. However, I am now signed up to run a race in early May so that is motivation for me to get away from my computer a little bit each day and go for a run.

I “love” (no pun intended! :) ) the way you clarify that this month (or any month) should not be focused on what you do or don’t receive, but on what you can give – to both yourself and to others. Great post! :)

Hi Libby,

I could never run a marathon. I should never say never. I cannot see into the future. :) I admire anyone who runs. It takes determination, dedication and endurance.

Thank you, Libby!

Yes, I agree with the other ladies – Thanks for this! I admit that I am not as fit as I should be – looks can be deceiving as I am slender, but not fit. So I have slowly been working back into it, and figured out that I could “work out” a bit – just getting my body moving – while my son is in the bathtub. It’s pretty fun watching yourself exercise in the bathroom mirror, lol.

I’m single and not dating, but it’s been awhile so I am used to it now. I am looking forward to this being an incredible month yet again, and I am just as happy as anyone else to celebrate the month of love! Love is a wonderful gift.

Cheers
Tia

Hi Tia,

I enjoy watching myself exercise in the mirror. I have a rebounder and my daughter likes to have jump on the rebounder in front of the mirror. I do too! :)

Tia, love is truly a wonderful gift that is easy to give away. It does not cost anything.

Take care,

Evelyn

Evelyn,
I love that you are going to put fitness first this February. I am right there with you. When I workout, I feel better & I love better. I hate to admit it, but it is true.
I plan to follow your lead there. Well done!

Hi Christina,

It’s good to know that you’ll be putting fitness first too. I worked out today and I must say, I agree with you about feeling better and loving better.

Keep me posted!

Take care,

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

Love this uplifting post! I think people put way too much emphasis on February because of one day devoted to love. I think everyone should apply these rules at all times, whether they have someone or not. :)

There’s love all around! Doesn’t necessarily need to come from a significant other.

Thanks for this!

I totally agree with you! ;)
