February 2011: Making A Connection

making a connection

Although no one seems to know exactly when or exactly why, the month of February has been designated the “month of love” and has been celebrated traditionally by the exchange of gifts and affections.

Named after a group of martyrs called “Valentines,” Valentine’s Day is February 14, and on that day, hundreds of thousands of elementary school children will send each other little pieces of paper with candy stuck on them, and Google will present a special home page logo.

On that day, 1-800-Flowers executives will give each other high five’s, and boyfriends and husbands everywhere will be grateful for the fact that Google put up a special logo, reminding them of this special day.

Likely, a significant number of couples will be married on Valentine’s day, and just as many couple will become engaged. And, many will go on their last first dates.

It is the ultimate connection day.

Because of this ONE day, the entire month is usually celebrated, and we at bizchickblogs.com are joining in. February 2011′s theme is “Making A Connection,” and we hope that you find a way to do that, with a friend, family member, romantic partner, to yourself, or to someone new.

Connections Are Not Just About Love

Connections are not just about love. We are social creatures, and we thrive on building connections. I’d say that connections are essential for our development and maturity as human beings, and connections of just about every kind can help us improve ourselves – and each other.

This month, focus on:

Connecting with yourself

  • Who the heck are you?
  • What do you want?
  • What are you here for?
  • Who are you when you’re at your best?

Connecting with others – In business, in family, in friendships, or in love

  • What new connections can you make?
  • What can you do to make sure that whoever you connect with IS BETTER for knowing you?

Connecting with the bigger picture

  • How can you plug in to social causes?
  • What can you do to add something to conversation?
  • How can you make your business profitable AND worth every dime?

Connecting via the web

  • How can you use social media responsibly and safely?
  • How can you get people to start talking about your company or brand?
  • How can you balance online connection time and personal connection time?

February Features – From the Editors

Each month, I ask the editors to write a feature article around our theme. This month, every one of these is about connecting – to ourselves, to each other, in business, and with technology. Check out this month’s articles – bookmark & share them!

Looking forward to “connecting” with you here at bizchickblogs.com in February! Make the most of it.

Cheers,

Tia

Hey Tia!

Unexpectedly, doing the 31DBBB challenge this month is leading to new connections. I’m so happy about that. Being forced to spend some time personally connecting and with no access to technology recently, it was a real eye-opener and has made me reconsider a lot of how I’m spending my time. Hmmm, it will be interesting to see how this evolves. :-)

Thank you for connecting!

Tia,
I find that when I take the time to make connections my soul is enriched. I feel like a better woman, wife & mom.
Whether it’s business connections or personal they are all of value. I love relationships, thank God for them!

I like that you talk about balancing online connection and real-life connection time. I think for many people, it’s easy to get lost in the online world. In my opinion, it’s the real-life stuff that even gives you something to talk about online.

Hey TJ – I agree. I spent some time today networking with business women in Tucson. It was so much fun! I have made a vow to do this all the time now.

Every day, I force myself to “step away from the machine!” I am one of those who does get easily lost online. I have to make myself put the Internet in its place.

Hey, if you and your wife have some photography you wouldn’t mind sharing, please do! I would love to see more photography here on the blog.

Cheers,
Tia

We mainly do portraiture, not so much stock, but if you have anything in particular that you’re looking for, let me know. Maybe I should give stock a try…I’ve heard that stock can be either good or bad – guess it’s like everything else.

Hi Tia!

Great post! There are so many ways for us all to connect these days, we can actually get lost. I think another important key of connecting, is to realize where you want to connect.

I think it’s important to realize that we shouldn’t connect just for the sake of connecting. :)

Love this article!

Hi Tia:

Very nice post. I like your expression in this post. Connecting with everybody in such a way that you touch their heart, is an expression of love. It has to be according to the relation that you have with the individual.

I wish I can extend my love to all my blog readers and grasp the love from all blogs, with a positive expression in this month, that is upon us for 2011.

Thank you Tia for this article that reminded me all this.
