Question: Does money grow on trees, and every time the wind blows, or the season changes, the money leaves fall from the tree down to the ground and those of us who are savvy or quick enough pick it up before anyone else?
Doesn’t it feel like that some times?

There is a Nintendo DS game called Animal Crossing; I used to play that game incessantly (and I was, um, 26-27-28 years old at the time). In Animal Crossing, you play a character who has to settle herself/himself in a village and make money, grow/sell crops, etc. While you can certainly sell goods, fish, and fruit to make money, you can also shake the trees and bags of money will sometimes fall out of them. Similarly, you can hit rocks with your shovel and bags of money will pop out at you.
I wish.
Not too long ago, branding and business coach Annemarie Cross talked about the money cruise control here on bizchickblogs. The money cruise control is the set amount of money we’ll allow ourselves to make. Anything above that feels uncomfortable, scary, ridiculous, or out of reach.
Last night, I started doing some number crunching and calculating as I was planning for new services and products in my business. Time and time again, when I did the calculations and the projected daily income exceeded a certain amount, I immediately backed away from the idea. The thought in my mind was, “There is no way you can make that much money so just forget it.” Thankfully, I recognized what I was doing to myself and began retraining my thoughts.
If money did grow on trees, and we were intelligent enough to understand that there is only so much money that tree can hold, I can understand why the money cruise control issue persists.
We are smart enough to know that there is a finite amount of currency being traded at any given time, and we use our best judgment to determine what is a fair amount for us to receive, given our talents and abilities.
That’s where the problem grows roots. We assign ourselves a dollar value and many times, do not allow ourselves to move forward with ideas that could cause that number to skyrocket. I think we are creatures of comfort, and it’s just not comfortable to shoot for more money and miss when we could shoot for the money we know we’ll get and be satisfied, right?

Hi Tia
My dad used to joke about the money tree in the backyard. Usually if we were asking for the imposssible lol Never did find it and the harsh realities hit home when looking to balance the books at the end of the month
I’m very interested in the Q & A session you will be doing with Annemarie. Will be back later to send you my questions. Thanks for the opportunity. Appreciated.

Yes, the money issue can be a big challenge when we don’t recognize the psychological limitations we place on ourselves. I’m a big fan of doing visualizing exercises regularly to create a “prosperity mindset”; I have a vision board and it helps me to stay realistic but also gives me the space to dream big too.
Hi Tisha – A vision board is a great idea! I always visualize having a vision board, LOL. I haven’t quite taken the steps necessary to make one.
Hi Tia,
Don’t we all wish money grew on trees the fact of the matter is it doesnt. The reason why so many have money problems (myself included) don’t know how to manage their money or how it works. A little older and wiser I have taken control of my fiances, for a better quality of life. If you cant manage $500.00 a month how can you manage 500k
Hi Nik. Well said!
