A WAHM’s Best Friend in the Kitchen: Gratitude for My Crock Pot

Gratitude.

Sure I am very grateful for my health, my family and my life.  But do you really want to know what I am grateful for? My Crock Pot.

My crock pot has been there for me since day 1.  She has seen me through hectic days of football and scouts.  She has helped me pull off homemade meals I literally threw together.  (Really, frozen bone-in chicken, onion soup mix, potatoes and carrots, all raw and simmer for 12 hours.) She has warmed the house with her smells of roast beef or chili.

Always faithful, never unreliable. My crock pot.  A WAHM’s favorite tool.

Why am I so grateful for her?  I hate cooking.  But love to eat.  If my crock pot never existed my family would be eating frozen dinners or Chili’s a lot more often.  And that is not healthy.

My crock pot has helped me make my family happy for over 15 years.  Healthy, hot meals are just waiting to be served at 6 PM.  Filling our bellies with delicious goodness I only took 10 minutes to prepare.  I love the ring to that “only 10 minutes to prepare.

She has made me happiest of all.  I know I can work all day as she does too.  We both do not need to move much but my family thinks we did.

Today I have 6 bone-in chicken thighs, some poultry seasoning and chicken broth stewing together.  Later I’ll add some baby carrots and white potatoes.  When everyone’s stomach is growling I just head downstairs and declare dinner ready.

Thank you Miss Crock Pot for the years of sensational smells and full stomachs with as little work necessary.  You are truly a WAHM’s best friend.

Do you use a Crock Pot?

What simple recipes have you used to make everyone happy at home?

I don’t own a crockpot…yet…but I have working mom friends who also swear by them!

Hi Allie, My niece bought me a new crock pot a few months ago. She said mine was ancient! Yeah well it’s been working wonders for me for over 25 years I told her. I like to cover a pork loin with salsa and slow cook it, yum!

I had a new one and it just didn’t seem to “flavor” the food as well. I figured it was like a cast iron pan, it gets better with age. That is so great that you have had yours for 25 years and it keeps on cooking for ya!

That pork sounds yummy! Do you serve with tortillas or eat it like a stew?

Allie, I LOVE my crockpot {a little too much actually}. My favorite recipe is just throwing in a big slab of beef or pork well seasoned with a little liquid and cooking for hours. We then shred it and add bar-b-que sauce. Mmmm. Perfect anytime of the year, and my kids love it!
