I have had many opportunities to interview some great people. When I get the chance to connect with a female entrepreneur and learn and share
her story, I’m all for it. Today I would like to introduce you to Traci S. Campbell. I met Traci a month or so ago, and am continuously surprised and delighted by her. Get ready to be amazed, I certainly was!
Enjoy the interview!
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself Traci
I am a computer (IT) professional who, at a very young age, became a care giver for my ailing mother. As a result of my experiences with her (a struggling single parent battling emotional and physical challenges), I decided to write a book to help other folks (teens and/or adults) who went through some of the same things I did. This later became a self-help program, The C.H.A.M.P. Within program, that is being used today with teens as well as with adults. This program forms the basis of the nonprofit organization I head up called The C.H.A.M.P. Community Project where we give public workshops as well as offer in-home study options to those who want to develop five aspects of their person to embark on a better life overall: Character, Happiness, Attitude, Mentality, and Purpose. And in my “free time”, I love to exercise, watch and read thriller novels and movies, pamper myself at spas, and spend time being a wife to a pretty great guy!
On your site you are listed as Author, Public Speaker & Coach. Which role fulfills you the most as a woman?
That is a tough one! I get a lot of fulfillment from various aspects of these different “hats”. However, as a coach or “teacher/mentor”, I can affect change directly and directly “give back” via my time and personal involvement. The other roles are more “hands off” and while they are still effective, the one on one interaction as a coach/mentor is truly very fulfilling.
I hear you have a special project about to launch called the Beauty In / Beauty Out Tour. Tell us about that.
The Beauty In/Beauty Out tour is something that we (me and those who work very closely with me, including Parish M. Blair of Mindful Living Media) conceptualized earlier this year. We want to take the concepts of The C.H.A.M.P. Within program and bring them to where women spend a LOT of time…their salon and/or spa. It is a “happy hour” type of interactive event that is designed to “pamper, nourish, and empower” both externally and internally. We will partner with local businesses to bring health and wellness, internal mental and emotional tools, and beauty advice/tips to ladies right in the spa environment.
Clearly you are a busy lady, how do you take time for yourself to recharge?
I can definitely take MORE time to recharge, as I am very busy like most women these days! However, meditation, prayer, watching my diet, and getting at least 7 hours of sleep on most nights goes a LONG way to keep me healthy and able to deal with all of the activities and associated pressures on a day to day basis.
Who are your female role models and why?
There are SOOO many phenomenal women, past and present, that this is a challenging question. But here goes! I will mention three that come to my mind: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis because she epitomized glamour and style, but was also a forward thinking career woman, wife, mother, and first lady in a time when previous first ladies did not wear all of those hats simultaneously. Maya Angelou for her longstanding efforts as an activist, author, playwright, and poet. And she is a shining example of a woman who overcame personal tragedy, prejudice, and poverty, to become respected and revered by the “regular Joe” as well as by Presidents and other world leaders And lastly, but definitely not least, is my own mother, Marie McKnight. While she lacked formal education, her innate intelligence, survival instinct, and compassion was an inspiration and driving force for me on so many levels.
You can connect with Traci in many ways, and she would welcome it.
